Don't Ignore Your Body's Signals at Work, Recognize the Signs Now
In our daily lives, health is a vital aspect that must be maintained consistently. Efforts to maintain health shouldn’t be limited to when the body feels pain; they should also involve paying attention to any physical changes that occur during daily activities. Before a health issue arises, the body typically sends signals or signs indicating that a change is taking place.
The habit of paying attention to one’s physical condition is important for everyone, especially for those who engage in activities requiring high concentration or spend most of their time sitting in front of a screen. Activities performed in a static position and prolonged screen use can cause the body to remain in the same position for several hours without us realizing it.
Sometimes this makes us so busy that we ignore feelings of fatigue and discomfort. In fact, these sensations are signals that the body needs a break and attention. Therefore, it is essential to recognize the signals and signs of changes in your physical condition.
Here are some signs to watch for and be aware of while working:
1. Recurring feelings of fatigue
2. Difficulty maintaining concentration
3. Dry, sore eyes and eye strain from staring at a screen
4. A heavy feeling in the head
5. Emotional sensitivity or irritability
These symptoms or complaints do not directly indicate a medical diagnosis. However, if you have experienced one or more of these complaints repeatedly, further analysis and evaluation are necessary. Additionally, it’s important to recognize changes in your physical condition so you can take the right steps to maintain your physical well-being.
Give your body time to rest; you don’t have to wait until all your work is finished or until you feel completely exhausted. If your body is sending signals or showing signs like those mentioned above, it’s time to give it a break.
There are several simple steps you can take to give your body a break or some rest:
Drink an adequate amount of water
Stand up and walk lightly for 2–3 minutes
Stretch your neck, shoulders, and back
Rest your eyes using the 20-20-20 rule (Every 20 minutes, look at an object about 20 feet/6 meters away for 20 seconds).
Take 5 slow breaths to help your body relax.
Get a Medical Check-Up (MCU) regularly (Recognizing your body’s signals is important, but routine health checkups help detect conditions that may not yet be causing symptoms)
Staying healthy at work doesn’t always require major changes. Simple habits can become routines that improve your physical condition. When your body starts giving you signs, take the time to pay attention to them. Staying healthy isn’t just about addressing complaints when they arise, but also about building habits that support your health over the long term. Better physical health can also help maintain concentration, energy, and focus while working, allowing you to be more productive and perform at your best.
Recognize your body’s signals. Make time to rest. Take care of your health, starting with your daily habits.
